To celebrate the launch of Catherine Hall-van den Elsen’s book Luisa Roldán, co-published by Lund Humphries and Getty Publications, this online conversation between the author and the sculpture historian Dr Holly Trusted will explore the life and works of this celebrated sculptor of the Spanish Golden Age. It will introduce Roldán (1652–1706) within a wider historical and social context, exploring her development as a sculptor from her early days in Andalucía to her later works in Madrid. It will also highlight the complexities of her oeuvre and reflect on the challenges she faced as a woman sculptor in early modern Spain.
