Caspar David Friedrich — Where it all Started

Caspar David Friedrich, The Great Enclosure near Dresden, 1832, Albertinum, Dresden.

Caspar David Friedrich's landscape paintings with their bright colors, mysterious light, and depiction of endless distances, have had a lasting impact on our view of nature. The airy transparency and nuance of the colour lend these paintings, many of which were painted in and around Dresden, great radiance. This exhibition, marking the 250th anniversary of the artist's birth, displays many important landscape paintings from both the Albertinum and the city's Kupferstich-Kabinett.
