Eduardo Rosales (1836-1873) en el Museo del Prado

Maximina Martínez de Pedrosa, Eduardo Rosales, 1860, Museo del Prado.

This year to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Eduardo Rosales (1836-1873), the Museo del Prado in Madrid is hosting an exhibition. Rosales, along with Mariano Fortuny, was the most influential and prestigious among the Spanish painters who worked in the third quarter of the 19th century. The Museo del Prado’s collection of works by Rosales is the largest in the world, and consists of just over one hundred drawings and twenty-six paintings. This new exhibition includes works that are not usually shown in the museum's permanent collection, with most of them newly restored.

The Museum has been able to aquire two works of historical painting whose whereabouts had been unknown for a long time. The two most recent donations, Landscape and the portrait of María Isabel Manuel de Villena, IX Countess of Granja de Rocamora, are now on display for the first time.

The exhibition is running until 29 January 2024, with tickets available here.
