Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West
Furusiyya is the Arabic term for the art of martial combat. This exhibition looks at its distinct practices of combat and knightly values, in the context of an Islamic society, comparing it to the culture of chivalry in Christian Western Europe, ranging from Iraq and Syria in the East, to France and Spain in the West. It includes 130 artworks from the 10th to the beginning of the 16th centuries, including arms, armour, and rare manuscripts. Many of the objects come from the spectacular Musée de Cluny – Musée national du Moyen Âge in Paris, with the team of curators is led by Cluny’s director, Elisabeth Taburet-Delahaye.
