Nuestra Casa: Rediscovering the Treasures of The Hispanic Society Museum & Library
Although the long-term refurbishment of New York’s Hispanic Society Museum & Library is still ongoing, the newly re-opened East Building is now home to its second exhibition, Nuestra Casa. The exhibition presents a small selection from the museum’s collection of Spanish and Latin American art, chosen by curator Madeleine Haddon. Her selection showcases not only masterpieces (collected by the museum’s founder, Archer Milton Huntington (1870-1955), but also more recent acquisitions such as El Costeño by Mexican artist José Augustín Arrieta (1803 - 1874) which reflect the very diverse community in which the museum is today situated. The artworks range in origin from Spain and Mexico to Puerto Rico, Peru and beyond, and range in date from the 10th to the 20th century.
