Points of View - Old Treasures Reconsidered is the result of a joint project between the Suermondt Ludwig museum and the Aachen workshops of Lebenshilfe.

The Lebenshilfe art workshops in Aachen offer people with disabilities a space to make art. These artists have visited the Suermondt Ludwig museum several times, taking a closer look at the collection of medieval art. Inspired by these 500-year-old works of art with Christian themes, they created their own works of art. These works are very diverse, just like the artists themselves. They show what the artists think and feel and allow us to see the old works of art in a new way.

The exhibition includes around 40 works of art by 14 artists, on loan from the Aachen workshops of Lebenshilfe, displayed alongside the works of art from the Middle Ages. The Lebenshilfe artists that took part in the project are Daniel Abrahamjan, Mahir Akpunar, Ozan Aktas, Michelle Arnold, Sürejja Durovska, Lisa Goller, Mona Haase, Tosh Maurer, Lars Otten, Elisabeth Paulus, Carolin Rinker, Annika Sachtleben, Elke Schubert and Nam Vu. Maria Geuchen (research volunteer at the museum and curator of the exhibition) and Hans Bothur (artistic director of the art workshop) supervised the project which is part of the research internship “Different perspectives on medieval art – approaches for people of different worldviews and faiths”. The research internship is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
