Bringing together portraits a group of works including paintings, sculptural busts, medals, carved gemstones, drawings, etchings, manuscripts, and armour, and works by by celebrated artists such as Raphael, Jacopo Pontormo, and Rosso Fiorentino, The Medici:Portraits & Politics: 1512-1579 introduces visitors to the various new and complex ways that artists portrayed the elite of Medicean Florence. Representing the sitters' political and cultural ambitions, these works convey the changing sense of what it meant to be a Florentine at a defining moment in the city's history.
